Harsha Madushanka and H Pevinya Peiris Clinch Titles at the 13th Mercantile/Government Services International Rating Chess Championship 2025.  

MAS Holdings Chess Club Secures Team Championship.

The 13th Mercantile/Government Services International Rating Chess Championship 2025 concluded successfully, held from 1st to 4th May at the Sports Pavilion, Ministry of Sports, Torrington Square, Colombo. The event was organized by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka with the participation of both government and private sector institutions. A total prize fund of Rs 475,000.00 was awarded, along with trophies, medals, and certificates.

The championship followed a 7-round Swiss format, with a time control of 90 minutes plus a 30-second increment per move. A total of 142 players competed across the open and women’s categories.

In the open category, Harsha Madushanka from the Ministry of Education claimed the championship title with an impressive score of 6.5 out of 7 points. Two players followed closely with 6 points each. K R V R Subasinghe from EvonSys (Pvt) Ltd secured the first runner-up position based on superior tie-breaks, while Ravi Prabath Dickmadugodage of MAS Holdings took the second runner-up position.

In the women’s category, H Pevinya Peiris of Datamation Systems Pvt Ltd emerged as the champion with a score of 5 out of 7 points. She edged out the competition in a tight tie-break among three players who finished with equal points. AFM W G A Lakmali of the Ministry of Health secured the first runner-up position, and WFM S A K Chandrasiri from Sysco Labs placed third.

MAS Holdings Chess Club was crowned the team champions. Team EvonSys (Pvt) Ltd secured the first runner-up position, while Team IFS took the second runner-up spot. Winners were also recognized in various rating categories.
