Mind Plus Centennial Chess Extravaganza 2024  – Galle Division

The Mind Plus Centennial Chess Extravaganza 2024 series, organised by the Mind Plus Chess Academy in collaboration with ChessSL, has successfully concluded its Galle Division championship. Previous events in this series were held in Monaragala, Badulla, and Kurunegala.

The Galle Division championship took place on August 3, 2024, at the YMBA Hall in Balapitiya. The tournament featured categories for Under 7, 9, 11, 13, and the Open, with separate divisions for boys and girls. Each player was given a time control of 60 minutes. A total of 187 players participated in this championship. FA NI Deshan Chamil served as the tournament director and chief arbiter.

Under 07 Open

  1. Champion: D W Chaetha Dulsandu De Silva (5/5 points)  – Dharmasoka College
  2. First Runner-up: Chandul Sehitha Prathapasingha (5/5 points)  – H/Vijayaba National School, Hungama
  3.  Second Runner-up: N C Dovidu Chanthusa (4/5 points)  – Dharmasoka College

 

Under 07 Girls

  1.  Champion: R P Shanudi Umesha (5/5 points)  – H/Vijayaba National School, Hungama
  2.  First Runner-up: S A Sanoli Harshadi (4/5 points)  – G/Sripathi Maha Vidyalaya, Wathugedara
  3.  Second Runner-up: N H Oneli Sehansa De Silva (4/5 points)  – G/P De S Kularathna College, Ambalangoda

 

Under 09 Open

  1. Champion: Johan Damsara (5/5 points)  – Dharmasoka College
  2.  First Runner-up: Viduna Damyuth Hettigamage (4.5/5 points)  – G/Sri Devananda College, Ambalangoda
  3.  Second Runner-up: Sasiru Kithnuka De Silva (4/5 points)  – Dharmasoka College

 

Under 09 Girls

  1. Champion: Nayanadini Gajanayaka (5/5 points)  – G/Karandeniya Primary College
  2.  First Runner-up: K Lithuli Tavinya Jayasekara (4/5 points)  – G/Prajapathi Gothami B M V, Ambalangoda
  3.  Second Runner-up: U Jenuli Johansa (4/5 points)  – G/Sri Buddhadaththa Model School

 

Under 11 Open

  1.  Champion: Agampodi Dinal Damsara Mendis (4/5 points)  – G/Kumara Kashyapa M V
  2.  First Runner-up: D Thusara Abesinghe Weerawarna (4/5 points)  – H/Vijayaba National School
  3.  Second Runner-up: P H Chavindu Thathsara Kumara (4/5 points)  – G/Peraliya Sri Jinarathana Maha Vidyalaya

 

Under 11 Girls

  1.  Champion: Methmi Hasana Pate (5/5 points)  – G/Buddhadaththa Model School
  2.  First Runner-up: G Sanadee Sanulya De Zoysa Wickramarathne (4/5 points)  – G/Prajapathi Gothami B M V, Ambalangoda
  3.  Second Runner-up: Mosandi Thisansa Senadheera (3/5 points)  – Kalutara Balika Vidyalaya

 

Under 13 Open

  1.  Champion: W P Nethul Kalmitha (5/5 points)  – G/Ananda Central College, Elpitiya
  2.  First Runner-up: Sithija Akash Wijesinghe (4/5 points)  – Dharmasoka College
  3.  Second Runner-up: P H Tharusha Dananjaya Pushpakumara (3/5 points)  – G/Anuruddha Kanishta Vidyalaya

 

Under 13 Girls

  1.  Champion: M W Sanchana Savindi (3/3 points)  – G/Peraliya Sri Jinarathana Maha Vidyalaya
  2.  First Runner-up: Thashara Sansalani Senadheera (2/3 points)  – Miriswatta Maha Vidyalaya, Bentota
  3.  Second Runner-up: H Shaini Umara De Silva (1/3 points)  – G/Revatha National School, Balapiti

 

Open

  1.  Champion: Himesh Nimsara Gamage (3/3 points)  – Dharmasoka College
  2.  First Runner-up: Oshadha Danidu (1.5/3 points)  – Dharmasoka College

 

Women

  1. Champion: Ganuli Thisumya Edirimuni (1.5/3 points)  – Dharmasoka College
  2.  First Runner-up: M W Keshana Imandi –  G/Peraliya Sri Jinarathana Maha Vidyalaya
