Sri Lanka Shines at the 18th Asian Schools Chess Championships 2024

The 18th Asian Schools Chess Championships 2024, held from 1st to 11th December 2024 in Bangkok, Thailand, marked a momentous achievement for Sri Lankan chess. Organised by the Thailand Chess Association under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation (ACF) and the International Chess Federation (FIDE), the tournament attracted players from across Asia. Competitions were held across three formats—Standard, Rapid, and Blitz chess—with age categories under 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, and 17, in both the Open and Girls’ divisions.

Sri Lanka made a remarkable impression, securing a total of 22 medals, including three individual medals and 19 team medals. A contingent of 57 players represented Sri Lanka in their respective age groups, bringing home a mix of Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals across multiple categories.
