Sri Lanka National Rapid Team Chess Championships 2025

Fischer Chess Club and Queen’s Squad Chess Club Triumph at the Sri Lanka National Rapid Team Chess Championships 2025.

The Sri Lanka National Rapid Team Chess Championships 2025 took place on the 26th and 27th of April 2025 at Sir John Kothalawala Vidyalaya, Piliyandala. Organized by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka, the championships featured both Open and Women’s categories and were played under a seven-round Swiss team format. Each game followed a rapid time control of 15 minutes plus a 10-second increment per move from the start.

In the Open Championship, a total of 75 teams competed. Fischer Chess Club emerged victorious with a total of 13 match points. Sokians Chess Club followed closely, claiming the first runner-up position with 12 match points. Three teams tied for the second runner-up spot with 11 match points each, but Nalanda College Chess Club secured the place with a superior tie-break score. Chess Spetsnaz and Royal College Chess Club finished in fourth and fifth places respectively.

In the Women’s Championship, 20 teams participated. Queen’s Squad Chess Club dominated the event, scoring a perfect 14 out of 14 match points and remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament. Passed Pawn Chess Club secured the first runner-up position with 12 match points. Two teams tied for the second runner-up spot with 9 match points, and Queen’s Pride Chess Team claimed the place based on tie-breaks, while Knight Queens had to settle for fourth place.
