All Island School Games Chess Championships 2025 Concludes with Outstanding Performances

The All Island School Games Chess Championships 2025 took place from September 20-22, 2025, at Prince College, New Town, Ratnapura. Organised by the Sports and Physical Education Branch of the Ministry of Education, Sri Lanka, the championships featured four competitive categories and were conducted under a six-round Swiss system format for teams. Tournament Director Lt. Col. G G Anura Abeywickrama oversaw the event, with International Arbiters Sanjeewa Anuradha and Naditha Amarakoon serving as Chief Arbiters. All games followed a standard time control of 90 minutes with a 30-second increment per move from move one per player.

Under 17 Boys’ Championship

The Under 17 Boys category saw participation from 20 teams. Rahula College, Matara emerged victorious with 10 match points, securing five wins and one loss across six rounds. Maliyadeva College claimed the first runners-up position with 10 match points, earning four wins and two draws. Royal College – Colombo 07 finished third with 9 match points after recording four wins, one draw, and one loss.

Cp/K/ Darmaraja College secured second place with 10 match points after recording five wins and one loss. Rahula College, Matara claimed third place with 8 match points.

MR/Sujatha Vidyalaya finished as first runners-up with 10 match points, recording five wins and one loss. Viharamahadevi Balika Vidyalaya – Kiribathgoda secured third place with 8 match points.

Girls’ High School, Kandy secured the first runners-up position with 8 match points after four wins and two losses. MR/Sujatha Vidyalaya claimed third place, also with 8 match points, but separated by tie-breaks.
