Day 3 of the 14th Ethugalpura International Rating Chess Championship 2024: It was all action-packed and full of thrills as the event hosted the Rounds 5 and 6 of the Open. It was concluded with the special two Blitz tournaments for the arbiters and parents, spicing the occasion.

Open Event Key Rankings After Round 6

The Open battle at the great game by players and also determination continues without any hitch. The Key rankings after Round 6 are here:

  1. Indrajeet Mahindrakar (IND, 2099) – All wins. Clean Slate performance with 6 points.
  2. A. A. H. M. B. Senarathne (SRI, 1927) – consistent and very strong. Had the 6 points at second place by the tie-break.
  3. Jude Dorison Gnanaselan (SRI, 1806) – third with 6 points in some fabulous technical play
  4. K. R. V. R. Subasinghe (SRI, 1948) – was half point behind. Has kept third place and continued to stay among the top performers
  5. E. D. S. Chandula (SRI, 1787) – after a real hard fight for this. It took 5.5 to keep at fifth place

The competition remains at its highest standards, and players will put everything into the last round.

Arbiters Blitz Event

This blitz event is an opportunity for arbiters, whose untiring contribution helps to present a fair competition in all tournaments, to shine through their brilliant minds in blitz chess.

Here, aside from showing great knowledge in playing, one can see passion for and commitment to the game as well. These efforts always go in the background and are the most important in the route toward every player’s success.

This blitz event served as the right opportunity to reward those arbiters whose great effort in providing error-free, correct tournament setting goes largely unrewarded until such an event occurs.

Ranks

1 L. D. P. Madusanka (SRI, 1755) -5 points flawless result at the top of the event

2 Naditha Amarakoon (SRI, 1872) -4.5 points brillant game played

5 W. S. N. Chandrarathne (SRI, 1918) -3.5 points end of top five with nice result played

Parents Blitz Event

At the same time, there was an emotional tinge to the day due to the Parents Blitz Event, where parents, being the backbone of young players, took the day and had a wonderful competitive tournament.

This was in recognition of the unwavering support they give, the sacrifices made, and the encouragement without which the future champions wouldn’t be there.

The combination of both the Arbiters and Parents Blitz tournaments was wonderful and gave the championship a warm feel. It reflects the very ethos of the chess world with its deep sense of community.

1 Isuru Rajapakshe (SRI, 1524) – 5 points, the obvious leader.

2 B. J. M. Charles (SRI, 0) – 4 points, very resilient and very determined.

An event to recognize parents in their never-ending effort towards supporting and encouraging young champions.

Looking Ahead: Next Rounds & Women’s Blitz Event Tomorrow

Tomorrow, it is scheduled to hold Women’s Blitz Event at 7:00 PM, which marks an important move towards women empowerment and encouragement in chess. It presents a stage for talented female players and motivates the younger generations.

Ethugalpura International Rating Chess Championship celebrates its inclusiveness by hosting a special event that supports the growth of chess among Sri Lankan women.

Day 4 continues celebrating talent, hard work, and community as this championship will be an exhilarating ride to the last rounds of the championship along with several unforgettable moments and outstanding performances.
