Mind Plus Centennial Chess Extravaganza 2024: Gampaha Division

The Mind Plus Centennial Chess Extravaganza 2024, organized by the Mind Plus Chess Academy in collaboration with ChessSL, continued its successful run, with the Gampaha Division championship held on September 8, 2024, at Anura Central College, Yakkala. This prestigious tournament series, which has already covered Jaffna, Monaragala, Badulla, Kurunegala, and Galle, brought together young chess talents from across Gampaha to compete in various age groups.

The tournament featured categories for Under 07, 09, 11, 13, and Open, with separate divisions for boys and girls. Participants competed under a time control of 60 minutes per player, testing their strategic skills in a highly competitive environment. The event was directed by FA Chathuranga Buddhika, who served as the tournament director and chief arbiter, ensuring a smooth and fair competition.

Under 07 Open

  1. Champion: Sanesh Binula Silva – 4/5 points
  2. First Runner-up: Dihen Kethmin De Silva – 3/5 points
  3. Second Runner-up: Sahesh Bihansa Silva – 3/5 points

 

Under 07 Girls

  1. Champion: A A Sethuli Vihanga Amarakoon – 4.5/5 points
  2. First Runner-up: Dinuli Pasyala – 4/5 points
  3. Second Runner-up: K H Thenuwanya Samiddhi Rajakaruna – 4/5 points

 

Under 09 Open

  1. Champion: R K I Rajarathna – 5/5 points
  2. First Runner-up: P G Sudam Methsuka – 4/5 points
  3. Second Runner-up: E M Ashel Olitha Edirisinghe – 4/5 points

 

Under 09 Girls

  1. Champion: Neha Shelina Imtiyas – 5/5 points
  2. First Runner-up: Senudi Dinanya Weerasinghe – 3.5/5 points
  3. Second Runner-up: B A Livinya Livisarani – 3.5/5 points

 

Under 11 Open

  1. Champion: R M N Sandira Rathnayake – 4/5 points
  2. First Runner-up: Thevin Suraweera – 3.5/5 points
  3. Second Runner-up: Thewsas Munasinghe – 3.5/5 points

 

Under 11 Girls

  1. Champion: W S A Amindi Rajaguru
  2. First Runner-up: H A Vinuli Sathyangi
  3. Second Runner-up: Lehansa Thisevnee Nawarathna

 

Under 13 Open

  1. Champion: Nadeen Neethmika Silva (G/Ananda Central College, Elpitiya) – 4.5/5 points
  2. First Runner-up: Hansana Wethum – 3.5/5 points
  3. Second Runner-up: Semina Udul Ariyarathna – 3.5/5 points

 

Under 13 Girls

  1. Champion: S H Methsiluni – 4.5/5 points
  2. First Runner-up: G D Sapumohotti – 4/5 points
  3. Second Runner-up: K A Kajini Manahari Wijerathna – 3/5 points

 

Open Category

  1. Champion: G K Sethum Lasiri Wicremasinghe (Henarathgoda Keppetipola National School) – 4.5/5 points
  2. First Runner-up: Dulsara Helindu (Harishchandra National College) – 4/5 points
  3. Second Runner-up: N A Nimadith Sanrutha (Bandaranayake Central College) – 4/5 points
Winners

The Gampaha Division championship was yet another successful chapter in the Mind Plus Centennial Chess Extravaganza 2024 series, showcasing the rising stars of Sri Lankan chess. Congratulations to all the winners for their remarkable performances, and we look forward to seeing more thrilling action as the series continues across the country. 

This tournament not only provided an excellent platform for young players to sharpen their skills but also fostered a spirit of competition and sportsmanship. With more events in the pipeline, Sri Lanka’s chess future looks bright.
