Sri Lanka’s Rising Star Shines on the World Stage

Sri Lanka’s young chess talent, Candidate Master A. P. Chenitha Sihas Dinsara Karunasena of Nalanda College, Colombo, achieved two outstanding results at the FIDE World Cadet U8, U10, U12 Championships 2025, held in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

  🇱🇰 A Proud Moment for Sri Lanka

🏆 Main Event – World Cadet Under 10 Open Championship

From 19th to 30th September 2025, Chenitha competed in the Under 10 Open category and delivered an exceptional performance:

  • Scored 8.5/11 points
  • Tied for second runner-up (placed 5th after tie-breaks)
  • Started ranked 14th, but outperformed expectations
  • Gained +75 ELO points, proudly crossing the 2000 rating mark

This result shows his great skill, focus, and fighting spirit on the world stage.

⚡ Blitz Event – World Cadet Blitz Championship

On 25th September 2025, Chenitha shone again in the Under 10 Open Blitz Championship:

  • Crowned Blitz Champion 🏆
  • Gained +120 Blitz rating points
  • Crossed the 2100 Blitz rating mark at just 10 years old!

These achievements bring honor to Sri Lanka Chess and highlight the hard work of both Chenitha and his dedicated trainer, Ayesh Kanishka.
