The Western Asian Junior/Girls Chess Championship 2024 commenced today, 16th July 2024, at Citrus Waskaduwa, Kalutara, Sri Lanka, and will continue until 21st July 2024. The Chess Federation of Sri Lanka is organizing the championship under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation and FIDE. This prestigious event features Under 20 players from Western Asian Chess Federations (Zones 3.1, 3.2, 3.4, 3.7, and 3.8) affiliated with the Asian Chess Federation.

The championship is divided into open and girls’ events, both conducted separately. The competition follows a 9-round Swiss format with a time control of 90 minutes plus a 30-second increment per move. The championship includes standard, rapid, and blitz events.

In the open championship, 24 players from six federations are competing, with FM Reja Neer Manon of Bangladesh as the top seed. Our young International Master, Susal De Silva, is proudly representing Sri Lanka in this event.

In the girls’ championship, 31 players from six federations are participating, with WFM Jain Sachi of India as the top seed. Our young WFM, Devindya Oshini Gunawardhana, is competing to make Sri Lanka proud.

Wish all Sri Lankan players the best of luck. Make Sri Lanka proud!
